Our pledge

East Gippsland Water has long been committed to being an environmentally sustainable business.  One of our key strategic aims is to foster environmental stewardship and one way we can support this is by enhancing our environmental performance through climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Our stories

Pursuing actions to improve our performance in relation to energy and greenhouse gas emissions is not new to us.

We made a commitment in our 2008 Sustainability Strategy to substantially reduce our greenhouse gas emissions with a long term view of carbon neutrality within the context of extant pricing policies.

In 2014 we entered into an energy performance contract as part of the Efficient Government Buildings program which saw a $1.23M investment in energy efficiency measures at 15 sites over the following two years.

In 2017 we submitted our pledge to the state government to further reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by not less than 24% by 2025 when compared to our 2016-17 figures, on our pathway to zero net emissions by 2050.

We will achieve this by an innovative waste to energy co-digestion project, significant investment in ‘behind the meter’ solar power, collaboration in renewable energy projects with industry and regional partners (where appropriate), and systems efficiency improvements to reduce overall electricity consumption.
